At present, according to the Nepali calendar, the seventh month called Kartik (October 18 –ย November 16, 2025) is going on. The month of Kartik holds great cultural, spiritual and religious importance in Nepali society. The name โKartikโ comes from the Sanskrit word Krittika (Pleiades Constellation) which is connected to fire and light. Therefore, this month is regarded as a symbol of purity, brightness and spiritual cleansing. According to ancient scriptures, Kartik is also known as the month of wealth, health and longevity. Special prayers and rituals related to peace and prosperity are performed during this time, as it is believed that such worship removes darkness and brings divine light into oneโs life. The worship of Goddess Laxmi (the goddess of wealth) is an important part of this month. Offering lamps of light during Kartik is said to destroy all sins and open the path to peace and prosperity. It is also considered a very sacred month for fasting, meditation and acts of charity, since donations made in this period are believed to bear endless fruit. During Kartik, people pray for peace, happiness and well-being for themselves and their families. They perform various religious rituals, planetary peace ceremonies and tantric practices. It is also the time when people visit spiritual masters, priests, shamans or Bompos to remove misfortunes, calm negative planetary influences and invite good fortune into their lives. Offering gifts or donations to oneโs guru and performing acts of devotion are believed to bring spiritual merit and blessings. In the Tamang Bombo tradition, the month of Kartik carries a deep and sacred meaning. It is believed that during this time, the natural balance between the five elements (earth, water, fire, air and space) becomes especially active. Because of this, the month is considered favorable for learning secret mantras from oneโs teacher, practicing meditation and strengthening inner power. For Bombo practitioners, Kartik is a holy period for self-purification, spiritual training and awakening of inner energy. During this month, we (Bombos) also prepare or renew our sacred ritual instruments. Objects such as the ritual drum (Nga), phurba (ritual dagger), Gholsing, Khekhur etc. are made or consecrated during this period. These sacred items are created only on astrologically auspicious days chosen by the Bon Masters. They are essential parts of Bombo spiritual practice, serving as sacred links between human beings, the divine and the natural world. Thus, the month of Kartik is not only a time of religious celebration but also a season of light, purification and blessings. It is believed that prayers, meditation and good deeds performed during this month remove sorrow, obstacles and negativity from life. Kartik inspires people to cleanse their hearts, live with faith and welcome a brighter path ahead. In the Tamang Bombo tradition as well, this month is seen as a sacred opportunity to reconnect with divine knowledge, deepen spiritual practice and honor the creative forces of nature with devotion and gratitude.
